My Best Friend and My Sister
Friends S5:E15 - Hey there, Big FRIENDly Giants! How's everyone doing this fantastic Monday afternoon? I won't lie, I'm having a hard time focusing today. If you remember, as my New Year's Resolution this year I set out to have fewer MAIL-IN SPECIALS in 2019 than ever before. The key word here being FEWER. Yes, class, the devil is in the details. Last time I checked, fewer does not mean none. To that end (I think you know where this is headed), I am heavily leaning towards exercising one of the 2019 (fewer but not none) MAIL-IN SPECIALS on this fine mid-February Monday. I must admit, as I alluded to earlier, I'm just too distracted today to give you the quality content you deserve. Why am I so distracted? Well, girls and boys, I'm glad you asked. The reason I'm so distracted is because in exactly four weeks from tomorrow, my wife and I leave for...drum roll please...Europe!!! I know, I know, I know what you're thinking. "Mr. Adams, you spend half of your life on tropical beaches and now you also have time to go to Europe?" That's right, class. 19 days of time to be exact. My wife and I will be spending 19 glorious days from March 12th through March 30th traveling through London, Paris, Munich, Venice, Naples, Bari, and Rome (and we're not even sorry). In fact, there is only one Friends 20/20 post during that span (March 18th) and the bossman Ted James has already agreed to let me write and submit the column from Munich. It was very gracious of him but he was quite insistent that I make an ironclad commitment not screw it up and miss my deadline. After all, I have my five-year-long perfect record with this blog series of timely submissions to protect ?. Welp, my being distracted today because of my desire to day dream about my upcoming trip to Europe just about sums up my inability to provide quality content on this fine Monday afternoon. So, let's make it official. I'm no longer heavily leaning...this is now a ? percent, Grade A certified MAIL-IN SPECIAL. But, alas, don't you fret. Just because I'm too distracted to give you quality content, doesn't mean I'm going to leave you devoid of content all together. Uncle Kenny's still got you covered. So, without further ado, I will provide subject matter related content visa vie the following: my best friend dated my sister once and it was really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really weird. Subject matter related content ✔️. Adams out.Recap in the Key of Phoebe - This is the one where Ross confronts Chandler after catching them hooking up from Ugly Naked Guy’s apartment, Chandler pulls a Chandler and freaks out when everyone starts making jokes about him and Monica getting married and having babies, Monica responds to Chandler’s freak out by giving him the cold shoulder, Phoebe becomes popular with Ross’s new neighbors even though they all hate Ross, Joey dates Katie (a petite woman who hits him playfully) but her punches hurt so he decides to break it off, Rachel helps Joey with his break up by kicking Katie in the shin, and Ross takes a “my best friend and my sister” joke about Chandler saying I’m sorry by proposing too far when he invokes “we were on a break” to jokingly propose to Rachel.Gandalf Gaffes - None. Flawless episode!Chan Man Quip of the Week - [The Setup] The gang is all at Monica and Rachel's apartment when Chandler frantically bursts in in a tizzy. He frantically surveys the room and asks to no one in particular, "Where's Monica?! Where is she? I need to talk to her! It's urgent! Is she here?" Confused, Monica raises her hand and responds, "I'm Monica." Chandler, now speaking directly to her, reemphasizes, "I need to talk to you, it's urgent!" A bit taken aback, Monica agrees, "Okay." Chandler continues, "Okay, I've been doing a lot of thinking about us, ya know a lot of uhh, us thinking. And uh, well I guess there's only one-one way to do this." He proceeds to start getting down on one knee. Seeing this, Monica begins to panic and asks, "Wait what-wh-wh-what are you doing?" Ignoring her, Chandler pulls out a ring box and begins popping the question, "Monica..." Before he can continue, Monica interrupts, "No-no, don't-don't-don't do it!" Continuing to ignore her, Chandler finishes his proposal asking, "Will you marry me?" As if watching a train wreck, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, and Joey look on stunned. Ross comments, "Oh-no. No. No." Joey adds, "What a bad idea!" Rachel offers, "Ohhhh, I cannot look at it!" Ignoring everyone, Monica asks him, "Chandler, why are you doing this?" He answers, "I don't know. But I know I'm not afraid to do this." Not satisfied, Monica asks again, "Chandler?" Now clearly searching for the answer she wants to hear, Chandler takes a stab with, "I'm doing this because I'm sorry?" As if reasoning with a small child, Monica asks, "Do you umm, you really think the best reason to get married is because you're sorry?" Chandler answers, "No, the best reason to get married is pregnancy. Sorry is pretty much fourth ya know, behind being ready and actually wanting to get married." He laughs nervously and asks again, "Will you be my wife?" Monica kneels down to meet Chandler eye to eye and instructs him saying, "Chandler, umm, I want you to take just a minute and I want you to think about how ridiculous this sounds." He responds by admitting, "Yeah, I'm kinda wishing everyone wasn't here right now." Monica continues, "Honey! Do you know that none of that stuff came from me?! I mean I never said I wanted to have babies and get married right now!" Chandler explains, "Yeah I know, but I was really confused and then I talked to these guys" gesturing at Ross and Joey. Monica asks, "Who? Two divorces and Joey?" Ross takes offense saying, "Hey!" Joey is unfazed and turns to Ross saying, "She's right ya know." Ross sheepishly agrees admitting "Yeah, but still, cheap shot!" Moving on, Monica tells Chandler, "Ya know what? Ya know when I said that I want you to deal with this relationship stuff all on your own? Well, you're not ready for that." Chandler agrees saying, "I didn't think I was!" Monica and Chandler hug it out and then Monica asks, "Oh my God, what would have done if I said yes?" Chandler answers, "Well I would've been happy because I would've be able to spend the rest of my life with the woman that I love." [The Knockout] Changing his tune with lighting quick reflexes, Chandler points towards the entrance and transforms into quip-mode with, "Or, you would've seen a Chandler shaped hole in that door."#TheChickAndTheDuck
